The Adams County Board of Supervisors met on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 9:00 am with the following members present: Bobbi Maynes, Leland Shipley, Merlin Dixon, Scott Akin, and Doug Birt. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Birt and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Akin moved, seconded by Maynes to approve the agenda for the day along with the minutes of the May 31, 2022 meeting. All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried.
Jamie Stargell introduced Joslynn Moore as the interim Main Street Director until the position is filled or Joslynn returns to school in the fall.
Dixon moved, seconded by Shipley to approve of Resolution 2022-25 Transfer budgeted Property Taxes from Rural Services to Secondary Roads in the amount of $605,119.60.

Maynes moved, seconded by Akin to accept Janice Shepherd’s resignation from the Grant Township Clerk position effective June 30, 2022, and to appoint Michelle Draper to the position effective July 1, 2022. The board gave their sincere gratitude for Janice’s 44 years of service to Grant Township. All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried.
Dixon moved, seconded by Maynes to approve going into closed session at 10:30 am to discuss County Engineer Position pursuant to Iowa Code section 21.9 (“A meeting of a governmental body to discuss strategy in matters relating to employment conditions of employees of the governmental body who are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement under chapter 20 is exempt from this chapter.”) All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried. The board went into closed session.
Maynes moved, seconded by Akin to come out of closed session at 10:55 am. All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried. Akin moved, seconded by Dixon to extend an offer package for the County Engineer position. All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried.
Department heads reports were presented. Secondary Roads – Karl McCarty shared all the secondary roads semis are unusable as they are broken down. He’s currently looking for leasing options. They are also interviewing Maintenance I candidates and hope to have someone hired soon to fill that position. Sheriff – Alan Johannes is concerned about the rising fuel costs and how it’s going to affect his budget. Recorder – Jamie Stargell shared last week her office was busy with boat registrations. Conservation – Travis Paul is working on end of the year projections. All the seasonal help is working and July 3rd will be when the lake has their firework display.
The board reviewed Adams County Ordinances Chapters 11-17.
