Board Minutes – February 8, 2021

The Adams County Board of Supervisors met on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 9:00 am with the following members present: Leland Shipley, Scott Akin, Doug Birt, and Merlin Dixon. Bobbi Maynes was present via phone. The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairperson Birt. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Akin moved, seconded by Dixon to approve today’s agenda. All supervisors voted aye. Motion carried. Akin moved, seconded by Dixon to approve the minutes from the February 1, 2021, meeting.  All supervisors voted aye.  Motion carried

Karl McCarty, Secondary Roads Maintenance Supervisor, presented an option for purchasing a 2015 CAT D6TXL bulldozer with 4309 hr for around $180,000. No action was taken.

Akin moved, seconded by Shipley to approve Resolution 2021-8 Certificate of Appointment of Marilea Mullen as a Commissioners of the Southern Iowa Regional Housing Authority.



That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Adams, Iowa hereby make the following resolution.

WHEREAS, a resolution has been passed and adopted entitled “Resolution Approving and Authorizing the Execution of a Certain Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement for the Purpose of Creating a Multi-County Housing Authority.”

NOW, THEREFORE, Pursuant to the provision of Chapter 28E.  Code of Iowa, and by virtue of our office as Supervisors, we hereby appoint Marilea Mullen for Three years, as the one (1) person to serve as Commissioner of the Southern Iowa Regional Housing Authority, representing the County of Adams, Iowa, and to serve for the number of years appearing after her name, respectively, from the ninth day of April, 2021.

All supervisors voted aye.  Motion carried. The full resolution is located in the Auditor’s Office.

Shipley moved, seconded by Dixon to approve appointing Kristi Drake to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. All supervisors voted aye.  Motion carried

Discussion was held regarding updating the Adams County Employee Handbook. More information needs to be gathered; no action was taken.

Maynes moved, seconded by Akin to approve the Tax Abatements as presented: Robert Grau, Jaris Catron, John Gebbie, Jed & Morgan Palmer, Aaron David & Stephanie Riley, Derek & Sarah Maeder. All supervisors voted aye. Dixon abstained.  Motion carried

Akin moved, seconded by Shipley to approve moving forward with DCI’s RFP for Court House Renovations. All supervisors voted aye.  Motion carried

A survey for the Prairie Solid Waste Agency and a SICOG County Priorities Survey were completed by the board.

Shipley moved, seconded by Dixon to approve the claims. All supervisors voted aye.  Motion carried.
